Introduction to 9 blogging myths to ignore in 2021
I’ve only been blogging for a little while. But I’ve already discovered a few blogging myths that are being preached to new bloggers. This can definitely discourage anyone from starting or continuing on their blogging journey.
Now of course different bloggers will have different opinions, and these are just what I have learned in my short year of blogging.
There are loads of myths that you can find online. I suggest reading up on all the blog myths you can find. But you can start with these 9 blogging myths to ignore in 2021 in order to create your own success with your blog.
Let’s debunk these 9 blogging myths you should ignore in 2021
1.Blogging is easy
You hear it all the time. Blogging is easy. Though, the people who usually say this, don’t know anything about blogging. Or They aren’t doing it right. Because it is most definitely not easy to blog. It can be a simple process, but it’s not easy. Blogging is hard. Especially in the beginning, when you are brand new and still learning the ropes.
Just like any other business, and blogging is a business, it entails a lot of learning. You have to put in the time to learn how things are done. How to grow and make money with your blog.
So if you are thinking of starting a blog, and think it will be easy. Don’t. It will probably be one of the hardest things you’ll ever do, but the most rewarding. It will be the best decision you can ever make. Blogging can change your life. Don’t let the hard work scare you. The rewards far outweigh the risks.
2. You will make money quickly
A total myth if ever I heard one. Some people think that when they need money fast, they can start a blog. And this might be because some blogging claims to make money rather quickly. But there is usually more to what they tell you.
Blogging is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes a while to start money with a blog. There is the content you have to create, then getting traffic to that content. And eventually monetizing your traffic. So as you can see, it’s a process. With a lot more steps in between.
It takes months, even years for some bloggers to make their income from blogging. Don’t expect it to happen quickly. You will be disappointed and get demotivated.
You will make money blogging. The proof is out there. It will just take time, patience, hard work, discipline, and a desire to succeed.
3. You need to be tech savvy
To start a blog you just need to know the basics. How to operate a laptop or computer. Blogging is a lot less complicated in 2021. You don’t need to know how to code in order to set up a website anymore. Most of it gets done for you. You can get a blog up and running in just a few minutes.
Blogging does not require any technical experience. Don’t be intimidated and think you need to be an IT specialist to start a blog. You don’t. All you need is the willingness to learn new things and work hard.
4. If you not a writer, you can’t blog
I really wonder who started this myth. Because listen, if you can talk and write sentences that make sense, then you can blog. If you can’t teach someone something, then you can blog. Blogging is just like a conversation between two people. You write the way you would talk to your best friend or sister, telling/ teaching her something you know.
That is the writing you need. You don’t need to know a bunch of big words. Nor do you need to be an English major. You don’t even need to be super smart. Just be willing to write and improve on your writing. Learn, adapt and improve. That’s all you need to start blogging.
5. You won’t be successful unless you invest in courses
If I had a dollar for every time I heard that I’d be a rich woman. This myth of, if you don’t invest in your blog, you won’t make money, is nonsense. Now I understand that you need to invest in your business.
But if you really don’t have anything to invest in courses right now, that doesn’t mean you won’t be successful. Yes you will have to work harder and figuring things out will take time. But you can get there.
How did all the other bloggers make it without courses? They kept at it until they made it happen. So don’t believe that myth. You will be successful, it will just take some time.
Don’t get me wrong. I fully, wholeheartedly believe in courses. It cuts the learning curve in half. If you can afford it, you should definitely invest in your blog. Just don’t buy courses just for the same as buying them, never use them.
6. Blogging is saturated
You hear it all the time. Blogging is so saturated these days. Sure, there are a lot, like a lot of blogs out there. But there are also a couple of billion people to read all those blogs.
What I’m trying to say is, there is a place for you in the blogging community. And yes, blogging has been around for a while, and some of us are a bit late to the party. But guess what? You can still be successful and carve out a place for yourself in it.
Blogging will be with us next year, the year after that, even ten years from now. With even more bloggers who will make money blogging. It will only evolve and become better, all you have to do is adapt and learn. As long as we have the internet, we will have blogging.
7. You need a lot of traffic to be successful
You don’t need loads of traffic to be a successful blogger. With just a few hundred loyal subscribers you can become successful.
Start small and build up your blog. But don’t feel you can’t be successful with a small blog. Everybody starts at humble beginnings. Even the biggest bloggers started at zero.
8. More traffic means more money
I used to believe this myth. I mean, it makes sense right? The more traffic you get, the more money you make. Uh. Not true. So not true. You can have a ton of traffic and not know what to do with it.
On the other hand, you get a blogger with very little traffic but know exactly how to monetize and turn into dollars. It also depends on how you interact with your subscribers. Your relationship with them and how targeted your traffic is. Making the most out of your traffic is what counts.
9. Social media is a waste of time
There is this myth that social media is useless. It’s not. It’s definitely not SEO. Google traffic is the best kind of traffic to get. Because it’s mostly passive and very targeted. But it takes a while to get.
Social media on the other hand is very fast. You can build your audience in no time. A lot of bloggers have built huge sites with the use of social media. It is therefore not a waste of time.
Just don’t focus only on social media. It’s never good to have all your eggs in one basket.
