How to create a blog schedule that works for you. Are you struggling to stick to a consistent blog schedule?

Do you feel demotivated at times?

Like you know you should be working on your blog but you just can’t find the motivation or sometimes even the time to do it? You don’t even know where to start. There’s this huge list of blog tasks you should be doing but you are not exactly sure where to start or even what’s important.

This was me not too long ago.  That is until I found a blog schedule, or shall I say created a blog schedule that works for me. See not all blog schedule tips work for everybody.  Because no 2 bloggers are the same, have the same needs, or even have the same amount of time to work on their blogs. Some bloggers have all day to work on their blogs. While others only have a couple of hours a day or even a week to work on their dreams for the sake of achieving their dreams and financial freedom.

All we have to do is be dedicated to finding the time to do it. We could sleep one hour less a night, take shorter showers, watch less TV, or anything else that you can think of to cut down on. If a certain goal is important to us, we will find the time for it in our busy lives.

So let’s get started on creating a  blog schedule that works for you.

Want to start a blog?

Why is creating a blog schedule important?

1. It makes you feel less stressed and overwhelmed.

When I started blogging I was all over the place. I wanted to do everything at once. And when I found out I couldn’t, I felt stressed. And an overwhelming sense of failure. It was too much to handle and made me feel like quitting. I wanted to be where other bloggers were in their blogging  journeys.

Not being there yet made me feel like a failure. Which was crazy because my journey had just started. It was foolish of me to expect to be on the same level as bloggers who had been blogging for years. Since then I learnt to not compare myself to others and also to do one thing at a time. You can’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle or end.

2. Keeps you on track and it holds you accountable

We are all human. Sometimes we forget things. Let’s face it blogging entails a lot of different aspects. We can’t keep track of all the tasks that we constantly have to finish. And sometimes other things will try and steer us off track. So it’s important to have a blog schedule that reminds us what we have to do.  Creating a blog schedule that works for you will also keep you accountable.  Anything that is written down will weigh on you until you get it done.

 3. Focus on the important tasks

This could be the most important aspect of having a blog schedule that works for you. It helps you focus on the tasks that are most important to your blog. Blogging has different aspects that range from least important to most important.  In order for your blog to keep growing you have to focus on the task that will propel your blog forward. You have to think long-term. Future. And you can only do this by focusing on the most important tasks

But what exactly is a blog schedule?

A blog schedule is an editorial calendar to plan out weekly, monthly and yearly schedules to help bloggers stay on track. I’d like to think of it as my accountability partner. You write everything you want to do down and it will hold you accountable for what you had promised you would do. Long after you had promised it and don’t feel like doing it anymore.

What should go on a blog schedule?

A blog schedule will differ from blogger to blogger. All blogs have different needs. My blog schedule won’t look like yours and vice versa. But what all blog schedules should have in common is all the blogging tasks that we should get done, along with deadlines and dates. In order of importance.

Create a blog schedule that works for you

Okay, so you need to have a plan. A calendar of what you plan on writing, publishing, and all other blog tasks, along with your goals for your blog. Take some time to think about all this. You don’t need to have it all figured out. I’m pretty sure your blog schedule will change as you become more accustomed to the needs of your blogging business.

You can use Trello, Evernote, G Sheets, or if you old fashioned like me; plain old pen and paper. Get yourself a bunch of notebooks and keep them close to you at all times. Inspiration hits at the most inopportune time.

Anyway, get your pen and paper or whatever you are creating your blog schedule on. Now it’s time to put down your tasks, goals, and dreams. Plan this very carefully. You want to be really honest with yourself. How much time are you willing to spend on your blog? How productive and consistent do you plan to be?

You also want to make sure to leave room for unplanned things. Because life will happen and you might not be able to work on your blog for a certain amount of time. But you want to set a schedule and stick to it as often as you can.

A few tips to add to your blog schedule

 1. Batch some of your tasks

Batching  works really well and saves so much time. Set a day aside for brainstorming blog posts. As many as you can. Create the outlines and do the research. Things go so much faster when you are already in the flow of things.

You can also create your pins in batches; it usually goes much quicker when I do that.

 2.  Plan how often you will write and stick to it

Set realistic goals. Not unattainable goals that will make you quit blogging when you don’t reach your target. If you know you only have time to publish two posts a month only do that.

 3. Time management

Time management is a key component to become a successful blogger. Map out your time and use it wisely. Focus on the most important tasks that will grow your blog. What will make the biggest difference to your blog? Do that and more of it.

Create a to-do list. A detailed schedule. Stay organized and don’t waste time. Spend the time that you set aside to work, for work. Don’t get distracted by social media or other non-blog-related issues.

Don’t focus too much on tasks that won’t grow your blog. Like a logo for example. I see so many bloggers spend so much time on the look of their website that they don’t have enough time for the more important tasks such as growing an email list or writing blog posts.

4. Set a time limit

In order to be more productive give yourself a certain time limit to complete a certain task. That will motivate you to work faster, harder and longer. You will also get more done that way. When you know that time is limited.

Conclusion on how to create a blog schedule that works for you

When creating a blog schedule be realistic.  Don’t set your expectations and goals too high. You will not meet them. And that will depress and demotivate you. You know how much time you have. Work with what you have. If you only have an hour or two a day, work with that.  Don’t try and create a blog schedule that requires 8 hours of work a day. That is unattainable.

Even a little bit of work every day will still move you towards your goal. The most important advice that I can give you is to just do your best every day and if some days you fail (which you probably will, because we are all human beings), you get back up the next day and try again. But most importantly is that you do not give up. Don’t ever quit. Before you know it you have reached that goal that you set out to achieve at the beginning of your blogging journey. By practicing consistency and discipline.

Now please tell me some of your blog schedule tips that have worked for you. I may just add them to my own blog calendar.
