Introduction on how to wrap your year up with a bang
The end of the year is fast approaching and now is the time to take inventory of what you have accomplished and what you still want to get done in the time left. You also want to start thinking about the new year and what you want to achieve next year. This way you are ahead of the game and know exactly what to do going into next year.
The end of the year always has a way of creeping up on us. This time you will make sure you are well prepared and ready.
Because December is such a rush, and we barely have time to do anything, you want to make sure that you start wrapping things up in November and be done in early December. Just in time to begin with your holidays and preparations. This will ensure that you take some much-needed time off and have a nice relaxing vacation.
How to wrap up your year with a bang
1. Review your goals for this year
Go through the list of goals that you set for this year. Are there any goals that you haven’t accomplished yet? If there are just pick one. If you have more than one and it’s a big goal then carry it over to next year. Choose a fairly easy goal, something that can be achieved in a small amount of time without burning out.
During this time of the year, people are very tired. So, you don’t want to push yourself too hard. But you also want to feel accomplished at the end of the year.
2. Set goals for the new year
After reviewing your goals you will have a clearer picture of where you are and what you have to do to reach your goals. Make a new list for the new year and transfer goals not met and add new ones for next year.
Take some time to think about where you are in your career and what you want to achieve next year. Remove goals that are no longer of interest to you.

3. Make a list of what did and didn’t work this year
Every year and everything comes with its challenges. This year is no different. There are things that worked well and things that didn’t go according to plan. Write it down and study it.
Ask yourself these year-end reflection questions.
- What were the best things that happened to me this year?
- What was the best thing that happened and I caused it?
- What were the biggest and smallest goals I achieved?
- Why did I achieve them?
- Which goals I didn’t achieve?
- Why didn’t I achieve them?
- Do I want to transfer them to the next year?
- What was the single biggest challenge I overcame?
4. Let go
Whether it was a good year or a bad one, now is the time to let go. After you’ve done your reflection you need to let go. Let go of what is not serving you anymore. Holding onto the past will only drag you down.
It makes the weight you carry too heavy. And you won’t have the space or energy for new things. So in order to have new experiences you have to let go of the old ones.
Conclusion on how to wrap up your year with a bang
We always feel very nostalgic this time of the year. As flawed human beings, we feel like we didn’t accomplish much. We tend to be too hard on ourselves and expect perfection all the time. But this is impossible. Because we are just human and were designed to make mistakes.
Be kind to yourself and appreciate everything you’ve achieved this year. And if you didn’t reach your goals, don’t worry there is always next year. It’s never too late. As long as you are alive you have a chance to follow your dreams. Just don’t give up and quit on yourself.
